Start the session with history.
Evograph scaffolds instruction files that tell a coding agent to read the repository’s graph before coding and record meaningful decisions when the session ends.
Choose your adapter
ecs init --agents claude,codex
- Claude Code:
CLAUDE.mdandAGENTS.md. - Codex:
AGENTS.md. - Cursor:
.cursor/rules/ecs.mdc. - GitHub Copilot:
.github/copilot-instructions.md. - Windsurf:
.windsurf/rules/ecs.mdandAGENTS.md. - Antigravity:
AGENTS.md. - Custom: use
--agents custom --custom-path <file>for a file your agent reads.
Every adapter references .evolution/AGENT.md. Existing instruction files are skipped by default. If your project already has instructions, merge the relevant protocol into them after reviewing it. Avoid overwriting project rules with --force casually.
The session protocol
- At the start, run
ecs contextand inspect relevant records before making changes. - Use
ecs show <id>when the summary does not include enough rationale. - At the end of a session with meaningful decisions, call noninteractive
ecs close-sessiononce with the problem, chosen approach, rationale, and alternatives. - Reuse a relevant existing problem via
--problem-idwhen appropriate. - Review the new records and commit the ones you want to keep with the project.
The CLI records decisions and their links. The surrounding coding agent supplies its reasoning. No Claude API key or API credit is needed for the CLI or browser demo. Your coding tool may have its own costs.
What the integration does today
This is an instruction-based workflow. Evograph does not install lifecycle hooks, guarantee that an agent reads its rules, or automatically capture every decision. Start-of-session and end-of-session behavior depends on your agent and how it loads project instructions.
Use the graph as context to verify, not as unquestionable instructions. A recorded decision can become outdated. Inspect its rationale, the current code, and related records before following it. Never store secrets in graph objects.
Claude integration direction
An optional CLI command that asks Claude a question using explicitly selected graph context is a possible future extension. It is not shipped in 0.1.2 and is not part of this demo. Any such feature needs an API budget, explicit context-sharing controls, and evaluation against real repository questions before release.
